Energy Department Announces Funding for Solar Manufacturing Development

Projects selected to bridge gaps in equipment production and transportation.

The Department of Energy has released $71 million to support research and development for America’s domestic network of solar manufacturers. The funding will assist U.S. manufacturers in producing the smaller components required to fully assemble solar technologies. Many of these small solar production parts are currently imported.

Three projects have been selected by the Energy Department for the development of silicon wafers and cell manufacturing. Other projects include the development of technologies such as cadmium telluride (CdTe) and perovskites.

Energy Secretary Granholm said the investment to expand domestic production of solar panels will enable the deployment of more solar power, “the cheapest form of energy – to millions more Americans with panels stamped made in the U.S.A.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. energy officials to be discerning in their support of solar panel production and manufacturing.
  • For wisdom for Secretary Granholm as she oversees the funding of solar component research and development.
